Afghani (Medicine Man)
[smooth=id:3;]
From: Medicine Man
Grade: B+
Type: Indica
Price: $50
Appearance: Semi-dark buds with generous amounts of resin all over. A bit leafy and airy as well.
Aroma: Very pungent smell that is a bit narcotic; what you might consider skunky if you never smelled real “skunky” previously.
Taste: Common knowledge says the taste of pure Afghani/Afghan resembles the taste of hash, and this one sure fits the description. The taste is very strong from its potent aroma, yet very smooth when exhaled.
Buzz Type: Very mild and mellow buzz. Afghani is not hybridized, and can deliver a very relaxing body high. It typically doesn’t make the patient tired, like many other pure indica strains, but creates a sense of being at ease.
Buzz Length: Medium. 1.5 hours
Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Confirmed pain relief for back and neck (muscle/nerve). Confirmed assistance with lower leg spasms and concomitant discomfort. Afghani is great for inducing the appetite. Absolutely a great early evening smoke to release body tension, but still leaving some energy until bedtime.
Overall: Afghani/Afghan is a 100% indica strain that originates from Afghanistan, as the name implies, and is often bred in Holland. It is a very popular medical strain due to its indica heritage, as well as a favorite for breeders. The Afghani offers a great pure indica buzz that isn’t too stoney (new patients should try this for an indica sample). On it’s own the Afghani doesn’t deliver the potency many MMJ patients are looking for and we suggest finding a specimen of this strain that has been let go a little more “amber” if you are a seasoned patient.
Matanuska (Apothecary of CO)
Matanuska Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Apothecary of Colorado
Grade: B+
Type: Sativa/ Indica mix
Price: $50-$60 8th member/non-member pricing plus tax
Appearance: Average, reminded me of the standard “kind buds” we first saw in the mid ’90s (basic green, low to medium trich coverage).
Aroma: Sour eucalyptus.
Taste: Eucalyptus and dryer sheets, not earthy but harsh (way harsh from pipe).
Buzz Type: A sativa no doubt, that took me from a lazy irritable state to one of alertness and content. Sharp mind, useful conversation with extreme detail and musical inspiration. A robust strain yet never overwhelming. Gave me a smooth, linear experience and overall good feeling.
Buzz Length: Medium. 1.5 – 2 hours (mush shorter duration from vaporizer, 1 hour at longest)
Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Anxiety, stress, irritability and fatigue haven’t a chance against the Matanuska. No recollection of pain and was even able to clear a slight headache.
Overall: Though this one didn’t have the brute force that some prefer, it is a good Sativa/Indica mix with remarkable mood and spirit lifting qualities, a perfect choice for a day starter. A slight deduction for duration and harshness and differing effects across both reviewers and reviews kept this in the B range.
Twilight (The Farmacy)
Twilight Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: The Farmacy
Grade: B+
Type:Indica
Price: $49/8th
Appearance: These nugs look almost yellow from all the amber-colored trichomes. Not too many orange hairs, and some purple hues on the popcorn sized, dense nugs.
Aroma: The middle of these buds has a surprisingly juicy-sweet aroma to it. Very captivating, and can’t stop smelling. Taste: Smoke is very smooth with a little bit of spice on the exhale.
Buzz Type: The buzz was a major creeper, only hitting its peak after 5 minutes. I felt an intense stoney high; a quick bout of nervousness/paranoia. After about 30 minutes, the buzz smoothened out where it just lingered. No trippy buzz here, but a great smoke to mellow out when alone.
Buzz Length: Short – Medium. 1 - 1.5 hour
Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Eases the body of any muscle spasms from the couchlock inducing effects. Felt the medicine working a lot more in my upper shoulders and arms. Great for reducing anxiety by mellowing out the body.
Overall: This is a 100% indica strain. At first, the Twilight did not stand out to me. It smelled decent, and I liked the nug structure, but closer review showed their true beauty. This moves slow, then hits hard, then peeters out to a relaxing body buzz. This is a nice specimen but the duration was just too short to get a much higher grade.
Ingrid (Lotus)
Ingrid Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Lotus
Grade: B+
Type: Indica (Celtic Stone F1)
Price: Varies Per Patient
Appearance: Very keefy, medium colored nugs. It is fairly dense, but dries out quickly when left in an open container.
Aroma: Faint sweet berry citrus.
Taste: A mix of Hash and sweet holiday spice.
Buzz Type: A strain with decent initial strength and a deceitful burst of short-lived energy. This was followed by a lazy wave with the body buzz to go with it.
Buzz Length: Medium. 1.5 - 2 hours
Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) This is a good muscle relaxer, find very appropriate for a sleep aid and hypertension.
Overall: I medicated with the Ingrid during a late afternoon and had to pretty much call it a day. The body relaxes to the point where getting up for some water feels like a task. Very stoney and lazy high that can induce couchlock. A great pain relieving medicine with a real kick.
Herojuana (BC, Inc.)
Herojuana Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: BC, Inc.
Grade: B+
Type: Indica-dominant hybrid, Outdoor Kentucky strain x Petrolia Headstash
Price: $50/8th
Appearance: Lime green with orange bundles, large dense buds.
Aroma: Organic, not very strong smell of pinewood and leaves.
Taste: Earthy holiday spice and cedar.
Buzz Type: The “creepiest”, in fact I experienced a subtle rise for a near half hour before reaching full effect. This one had all of the classic properties of a strong indica (heavy head, eyes & body) and yet I felt the place to be was on my feet. Though I didn’t look it, I was able to stay functioning and mentally sharp.
Buzz Length: Long. 2 Hours
Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Joint pain and arthritis, headache and nausea.
Overall: I’ve had similar “stand-up indicas” before, but this one had the most apparent dual effect and was a very welcome surprise. Most reports say this specimen should trance you like heroin, and while it had the strong indica effects, it didn’t overwhelm me like I thought it would (I’ve never done heroin – disclaimer for comparison).
