Cinderella 99 Medical Marijuana Strain Review

Type: Sativa-dominant hybrid, from the Jack Herer line (see C-99′s Strain Encyclopedia entry for more info)

Appearance: (7.25/10)  This Cinderella had a solid structure but had slightly more leaves than we’re used to for the strain, perhaps due in large part to a somewhat liberal trim… there were quite a few snipped-in-half guard leaves that were not cut at the petiole (where the leaf connects to the stem), leaving a lot of leaf matter in the sample.  Other than that, we were pretty happy with the overall appearance — the sample nug was burly and had good shape, with a variety of colors (mostly dark green leaves/calyxes, mixed yellow/orange pistils) and a shimmering layer of trichomes.  The harvest seemed a bit early to us, as there were only a few visible ambers — also, there were a couple of tiny seeds visible in the sample.

Aroma: (7.75/10)  A combination of citrus and flowery notes dominated this one — one reviewer picked up on a sweet orange cleaner smell, but generally it was not particularly sweet or pungent.  Pre-grind there was hardly any smell to it at all, but as usual, it opened up when handled heavily.  Not as sharp and impressive as some C-99s can be, but it smelled right for the type and was enjoyable.

Taste: (7/10)  One reviewer got a candy-like taste, but the others got mostly vegetation, with a hint of flowers and citrus (similar to the smell, though even less pungent).  The Haze element is evident in the taste, though we wish it were stronger.  The smoke was smooth on the throat yet rather expansive — any coughing that happened was due to the expansion.  The final ash was a very light gray with a bit of darker ash, showing it had received a solid flush.

Effects: As expected, this strain started out with a Sativa package of head effects, with lots of cycling pressure that made us feel as though we were wearing a light mask, possibly with a chinstrap (felt like something was squeezing our faces slightly).  Am immediate boost in energy, with an uptick in mood and a slightly racing heart for the first 15 minutes or so.  The effect dropped rather sharply about 1.5 hours into the experience, being reduced to a fairly relaxing and clear-headed feeling that kept motivation fairly high.  Depending on time of day, the comedown might lead into sleep, as it did have a bit of the drowsiness that is typical of uppy Sativas.

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Energy, motivation, ocular attention, mood elevation, anti-nausea, appetite stimulation, and some drowsy/sleep aid qualities late in the duration.

Overall: While this wasn’t the favorite C-99 our staff has had, it was very solid and would serve as a good introduction to the strain for less-experienced patients who may not be able to handle the at-times uber-potent C-99 experience.  This one had some moments of slight raciness, but didn’t really rile up anxiety or carry any negative effects with it, which is nice.  This sample was well-grown, though it seems as if a longer cure and later harvest time might’ve helped convert more of the THC-A into active THC and improve potency overall.  Though it was a little shaggy trim-wise, the bag appeal was above-average, with the smell and overall structure being the highlights.  Recommended as a daytime med, either as an introduction to the day, or as a way to help finish it off with some motivation and energy (i.e. after work when things still need to get done).

All the talk about the ever closer election has been surrounding how motivated the Tea Party and Republicans are and how unmotivated progressives and Democrats have been.  Several news outlets recently reported that marijuana may be coming to the rescue.   This November, California votes on Proposition 19, which would legalize, tax, and regulate marijuana for recreational use.  Interestingly, California also has the highest percentage of expected voters under the age of thirty.  Democrats in other parts of the country are beginning to notice.

According to the Wall Street Journal’s Peter Wallsten, Democratic pollster Andrew Myers found in a December 2009 survey in Colorado that 45% of Obama “surge voters”—people voting for the first time in 2008—said they would be more interested in turning out again if marijuana legalization were on the ballot. “If you are 18 to 29, it’s far and away the most compelling reason to go out and vote,” Mr. Myers said.

Colorado, Washington, and Nevada (all swing states crucial to President Obama’s reelection) already have groups mobilizing to get ballot measures for legalization in place for 2012.  They believe that if they can motivate a largely apathetic but usually liberal voting bloc, then they can build momentum in crucial swing states.  It’s not a guarantee by any means; ballot measures usually don’t have a large impact on voter turn-out.  However, in close races a divisive and emotional issue can be the decider i.e. Same-Sex Marriage Bans in 2004.
