Grape Ape (Nedicate)
Grape Ape Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Nedicate
Grade: A-
Type: Indica-dominant hybrid, Afghani x Skunk #1 (from Apothecary Genetics)
Price: $50/8th
Appearance: (9/10) This sample appears to be the “real” Grape Ape, with deep royal purple tones everywhere, which are contrasted by greens. The bud was a little wet for our liking, but it was harvested at the perfect time, with mostly cloudy trich heads. Moderate trichome coverage (many of which were purple) and above-average density makes this a looker, maybe the prettiest purple strain we’ve had.
Aroma: (8/10) “Dark” fruit notes dominate here, with a strong smell that reminded us of raisins. There was a hint of the candy grape sweetness that the strain is known for, but it wasn’t nearly as strong as the Oregon Grape, which is our new gold standard for that scent.
Taste: (7/10) Tasted mainly on the exhale, this was an almost saccharine sweetness… on the inhale it produced a strange and unique gingery taste. No real trace of the typical “purple” taste, which was a welcome change for us. The smoke was moderately harsh and caused some coughing, while the ash burned down to a medium gray (about a 7/10 on the cleanliness scale).
Effects: Starting with a quick hit to the eyes and forehead, this strain worked its was into a heavily Indica feeling early on, with a strong body component that felt like pleasure waves shooting up and down the limbs. The eyes feeling turned to the burning end of the spectrum early on, making them want to close even though it wasn’t exactly tiring. Iffy motor skills but an elevated mood made this a bit of a goofy strain — mentally we were capable, but when physicality was required, it was a little more dicey. The potency went on a steady downward slope until it returned us to a normal energy level.
Duration: Long, 2.5 – 3 hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) General relaxation, body tension relief, mood elevation, anti-anxiety, possible sleep aid later in the day.
Overall: This is one of the top purple lineage strains we’ve had the pleasure of trying for sure — a nice taste/smell/appearance package led to good things in the effects. Patients who seek a fairly heavy medicinal Indica should always give purples a look, but this Grape Ape was never overwhelmingly strong, leaving room for some functionality and a relatively clear head (and eyes, for that matter). Due to the dryness level, this strain didn’t burn great even when ground-up, so we’d be interested to see how it smokes minus the excess moisture… might push it into the A range.
Grunk (Medicine on the Hill)
Grunk Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Medicine on the Hill
Grade: A-
Type: Hybrid – Grape Ape (Indica) x Skunk#1 (typically heavy Sativa ranging in %)
Price: $20/gram
Appearance: Beautiful, well manicured, crystal dipped buds. They were nice and dry and they had hints of the Grape lineage signature color.
Aroma: Very Grape – some small hints of the classic skunk scent.
Taste: Grape & Skunk (tasted more even split than it smelled)
Buzz Type: Instant starter that gave me a burst of energy, yet a bit too overwhelming to go out into the world with it at first. Fuzzy headed and a bit dopey, my workload for the day had to suffer a brief delay so could recollect my bearings (a good hour). When the “storm” calmed down a little I found no problem with function and motivation to get things done. Drained when done though.
Buzz Length: 2 ½ hours with linger
Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Worked very well for muscular pain with some nerve assistance as well (spinal compression).
Overall: This is a top notch strain – great representation of its parents. It hits hard with huge expansion. It was strong but fun and made me want to go walking downtown. The only real negative thing I can say is I was left a little tired at the end of my session (the initial buzz is often the part people are looking for).
