Mother’s Finest Medical Marijuana Strain Review

FromTetra Hydro Center

Grade:  B+

Type:  Sativa-Dominant Hybrid, a Haze-heavy selection from the Sensi Seeds Jack Herer line, also containing a mystery Indica related to Juicy Fruit

Price:  $50/8th

Appearance:  (7.5/10)  An abnormally dark green for a high percentage Sativa like this, the Mother’s Finest was nicely dense and had a copious layer of trichomes all over it with brownish-orange pistils.  While it didn’t necessarily “wow” us, it was a very solid-looking sample with no flaws to be seen in the grow/harvest that made us excited to try it.

Aroma:  (9/10)  Wow, this one is one of our new favorites smell-wise, as it had a pretty amazing lemon-lime Haze smell with a combination of chemical pine and menthol bite in the background.  Though it won’t exactly smack you in the face with its aroma, it was rather pungent when ground and just extremely enjoyable and aromatic.  If you love a Hazey citrus smell, this one will curl your toes a bit and take you to a happy place.

Taste: (6.5/10)  More than a little disappointing after the mouth-watering aroma, the taste was nicely sweet, with a little bit of a “green” and herby taste to it, but it went downhill quick and was never really all that pungent to begin with.  The real issue though was the level or harshness, which made our reviewers cough more than normal, and the coughing continued for a while after finishing the sample.  However, it burned to a nicely clean white-gray ash, so it didn’t appear to be a flush issue.

Effects:  While one reviewer reported a 15 minute “creeper” effect, there were no disagreements about the initial effects — this strain is very heady in every sense of the word, with pockets of pressure developing in the cheeks, a strong spacey feeling (literally staring off into space at times), warmth coursing through the head and body, and a slightly energetic feeling.  However, since the head effects were so overwhelming, the body wasn’t thought about much until later in the duration when the head pressure had died down a bit…  Once that happened, it gave way to a more relaxed and mood-enhancing state with a little residual mental fuzziness.

Duration:  Long, 2.5 – 3 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  General relaxation, eventually…  No clear aspects of relief… it didn’t really kill pain, wasn’t a Sativa energy boost beyond 15 minutes, and had those semi-uncomfortable pockets of pressure that weren’t particularly enjoyable.  It was relaxing and mood elevating as it went on, but beyond that, it was hard to call.

Overall:  This strain was interesting because it carried such an amazing smell but was sort of ho-hum in other areas.  The effects were certainly strong and not lacking potency, but they were sort of disjointed and hard to nail down, especially in terms of medicinal qualities.  It’s one of those strains that might catch up to you if the dosage is too high, but at lower levels, it would be nice for most patients as a general as long as they don’t mind the face pressure weirdness.  It took us to a good place after about an hour, but the initial effects were a little strange and not particularly enjoyable… clean finish though with the highest level of enjoyment probably coming around 1:30 – 2:00 in.

Sour Diesel Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Tetra Hydro Center

Grade: A

Type: Sativa-dominant hybrid (Massachusetts Super Skunk x ChemDawg) x DNL is the common lineage

Price: $50/8th

Appearance: (8/10)  This was a bit of a strange-looking Sour Diesel, with almost stalk-like stems supporting columnar clusters of fat calyxes that stacked on top of one another in the characteristic “foxtail” shape.  It wasn’t dense in the traditional sense of overall bud structure, but the little bud columns were rather solid, as they were nothing but calyxes – it was definitely a unique-looking grow, but it appeared to be of high quality regardless.  The trichome coverage was above average and the mix of greens with the brownish pistils gave this strain a fairly dark appearance overall despite its fuzzy layer of trichs.

Aroma: (7/10) A fairly standard range of aromas for the strain, this sample possessed a strong “sour” component, with an almost bitter and mentholated citrus smell accompanied by the requisite dose of fuel.  Though it’s not exactly appealing, it certainly is impressive and gives the indication that something powerful lurks within.  It wasn’t the strongest-smelling Sour Diesel in terms of pungency, but its sharpness and strong sourness was a great example of the strain.

Taste: (8/10) Though the review team reported a distinct harshness and some coughing with this strain, it was definitely well-liked in this area – some of the coughing was likely due to the level of expansion this strain possessed, as it was certainly above average there.  Again, the dominant olfactory sensation with this strain was a sour citrusy bite followed by a bouquet of menthol, soil, and peppery spice in a lingering aftertaste that was complex and enjoyable.  This one definitely has an emphasis on the “sour” part of its namesake rather than the “diesel”.

Effects: Though a rising energy was the initial effect, this Sour Diesel settled into a strange state of relaxation, one that was accompanied by a (sometimes literally) dizzying cerebral high and a definite spaciness with some couchlock tendencies.  A misguided attempt to get up and do something resulted in one reviewer wandering around before abandoning the idea and retreating to the couch to enjoy the racing thoughts and the numb body high this strain provided.  Another reviewer reported a wonderful uptick in creative energy at the onset followed by a relaxed sense of well-being for the remainder of the high.  There was never any paranoia or unease with this strain despite Sour Diesel’s reputation for being overwhelming at times, and despite its above-average potency, this one would be a solid choice for almost all levels of MMJ patient.

Duration: Long, 2.5-3 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Mild to moderate body pain management, possible glaucoma/ocular relief, anti-anxiety, mood elevation, creativity, appetite stimulation.

Overall: This strain was very well-liked in all aspects of the review aside from minor gripes about the somewhat wispy bud structure.  The taste and smell both screamed “sour” and yet the fuel/soil component of the diesel was still present.  Its complex taste especially pleased the reviewers, and was indeed a foreshadowing of a powerful ride to come.  The effects and duration were where it really stood out though, as it carried on to 3 hours, even on a fairly small dosage (3-4 hits).  This one would be a good late daytime/after work sort of smoke, because it might put you out a bit but would otherwise provide a great sense of relaxation and well-being for several hours into the night.

Warlock Skunk (Tetra Hydro Center)

Warlock Skunk Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From:  Tetra Hydro Center

Grade:  A-

Type:  Indica-dominant hybrid, Skunk x Afghani, see its strain encyclopedia page for more info

Price:  $45/8th

Appearance:  (8/10) There is a nice hint of purple to this sample (guys at shop called it purple warlock) and in addition to being pretty it’s also a little menacing.  Two different reviewers on different days saw this strain and said it looks a little mean spirited or angry, personally I really liked its appearance.  It was a bit leafy but still beautiful.

Aroma:  (7/10) Light skunk smell straight from bag, but gets slightly fruity and releases the signature purple smell after being broken up.  Medium pungence level overall.

Taste:  (6/10)  Big expansion and a bit harsh, with a hashy taste going in and a nice soft fruit and sweetness on the way out.

Effects:  This is a nice indica that provides a steady rise and creep for an overall body experience (suggesting a high concentration of CBD).  Some sativa qualities will be found, potential paranoia, pounding heart and immediate headiness.  For the most part the WS provides a potent body medication.  Watch out for the immediate chest expansion and coughing if you have lung issues.

Duration:  Long.  2+ hours

Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Pain, insomnia, general body relaxation.

Overall:  The Warlock Skunk looked like it was a dark and formidable opponent, but when experienced is actually a nice and very chilled out body medication though it is strong.  The potential for overdoing it exists for newer patients as it is both potent and a “creeper”.  If you’ve found you enjoy indica and you want to add a little purple to the mix, the WS is a strain for you.
