Bubba Kush (Nedicate)
Bubba Kush Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Nedicate
Grade: A
Type: Indica-dominant, thought to be an Afghani landrace variety
Price: $50/8th
Appearance: (8/10) Gleaming with tall clear/cloudy trichomes, this sample is dark-looking overall with some slight purpling and brick red pistils. Though this sample was absolutely spectacular looking, there were a few tiny seeds and some yellowed leaves left on, knocking the score down slightly. It left the fingers sticky after handling even though it was totally dry.
Aroma: (8.5/10) A sweet and slightly fruity Kush in the jar, but it ground up to a pungent and fresh scent with hints of ginger and pine. Not the normal musky Bubba we’re used to, but extremely nice.
Taste: (7.5/10) A very appealing taste, though not pungent, this Bubba had a light sweetness but was mostly a cool-tasting and slightly fuely Kush. The taste disappeared somewhat quickly though, with only the first 2 hits having a hint of it. The smoke was very expansive and is the type that can sneak up on you and elicit some coughing.
Effects: A very strong warmth to the head with some pressure fluctuation along with significant body waves/tingling to start led to a creeping smile that seemed to never leave once it arrived. It was a bit of a crushing Sativa effect at first, with the body feeling great and the eyes feeling swelled and hot. It moved more into its Indica nature as it progressed — yawning and stretching led one reviewer straight into a nap in the middle of the morning, a very unusual occurrence. The body waves endured very deep into the duration, but it also had a bit of unsettled energy that made alternate sitting and moving a common theme.
Duration: Long, 3+ hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Potent mood elevation, sleep aid, body relaxation, mild pain relief, and anti-depression properties… great medical strain.
Overall: Though the taste was a little different than the Bubba we’ve become accustomed to, this particular cut was extremely potent and had a high medicinal value for patients seeking relaxation and tension/pain relief properties. This one definitely earned its ‘A’ based on the potency, duration, and medicinal qualities, but the appearance was fairly spectacular as well, especially in the trichome coverage and density. Yet another potent and quality med from the mountains of Nederland…
Durban Poison (Nedicate)
Durban Poison Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Nedicate
Grade: A
Type: Sativa South African landrace
Price: $50/8th
Appearance: (8.5/10) This sample was a chunky round nug with a unique shape that immediately draws you in with its insane trichome coverage. While the colors were a little dark overall, the trichs covering the large teardrop calyxes made it sparkle from a distance. We did find a small seed, but the harvest timing was perfect, with tons of cloudy heads dotted with amber. Nicely dense and dry, it clearly had quality post-harvest care.
Aroma: (9.5/10) One reviewer mentioned that this is hands-down the best-smelling Durban he’s had (and we’ve had a LOT of Durbans here at KindReviews). The main reason is the level of pungency and the wonderful strong yet sweet eucalyptus-menthol bite it has. If you enjoy Durban, you’ve gotta smell this one.
Taste: (8/10) While not quite as impressive as the smell (what is?), the taste was also heavy on the eucalyptus sweetness but carried an interesting banana candy-like aftertaste that popped up on early hits. That was somewhat unique, but otherwise this was a standard Durban taste-wise (which is certainly not a knock). It was fairly smooth but did expand quite a bit, catching up by surprise and causing a little coughing. It had a speckled darkish gray ash though, and may have benefited from a longer flush.
Effects: This was a more narcotic and bleary-eyed Durban that we’re used to, but the extra potency will certainly be appreciated by some patients. A calm yet energetic state with heavily-medicated eyes and feelings of outward pressure in the head started this one off, but it quickly took a stronger turn. A state of near-constant yawning and stretching ensued, and the potency was a little overwhelming, causing one reviewer to take an unexpected nap, only to wake up medicated 3.5 hours later… this is a crusher of a Durban.
Duration: Long, 2.5 – 3+ hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Mood elevation, slightly anxious energy to start, mental and physical relaxation as it went on, appetite stimulation, and possible ocular relief.
Overall: Simply put, this is certainly a contender for the best Durban Poison we’ve ever seen. Minor issues aside, the small/taste/appearance package was just incredible, and fans of the strain will be over-the-moon for the pungency of it all. But the reason this one gets an A is because it was so thoroughly medicating, on a level that Durbans generally aren’t known for. It is not a pain reliever, had a bit of an anxious side, but the overall experience was calming and totally enjoyable. Take it easy with this one if you don’t have a very high tolerance…
Grape Ape (Nedicate)
Grape Ape Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Nedicate
Grade: A-
Type: Indica-dominant hybrid, Afghani x Skunk #1 (from Apothecary Genetics)
Price: $50/8th
Appearance: (9/10) This sample appears to be the “real” Grape Ape, with deep royal purple tones everywhere, which are contrasted by greens. The bud was a little wet for our liking, but it was harvested at the perfect time, with mostly cloudy trich heads. Moderate trichome coverage (many of which were purple) and above-average density makes this a looker, maybe the prettiest purple strain we’ve had.
Aroma: (8/10) “Dark” fruit notes dominate here, with a strong smell that reminded us of raisins. There was a hint of the candy grape sweetness that the strain is known for, but it wasn’t nearly as strong as the Oregon Grape, which is our new gold standard for that scent.
Taste: (7/10) Tasted mainly on the exhale, this was an almost saccharine sweetness… on the inhale it produced a strange and unique gingery taste. No real trace of the typical “purple” taste, which was a welcome change for us. The smoke was moderately harsh and caused some coughing, while the ash burned down to a medium gray (about a 7/10 on the cleanliness scale).
Effects: Starting with a quick hit to the eyes and forehead, this strain worked its was into a heavily Indica feeling early on, with a strong body component that felt like pleasure waves shooting up and down the limbs. The eyes feeling turned to the burning end of the spectrum early on, making them want to close even though it wasn’t exactly tiring. Iffy motor skills but an elevated mood made this a bit of a goofy strain — mentally we were capable, but when physicality was required, it was a little more dicey. The potency went on a steady downward slope until it returned us to a normal energy level.
Duration: Long, 2.5 – 3 hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) General relaxation, body tension relief, mood elevation, anti-anxiety, possible sleep aid later in the day.
Overall: This is one of the top purple lineage strains we’ve had the pleasure of trying for sure — a nice taste/smell/appearance package led to good things in the effects. Patients who seek a fairly heavy medicinal Indica should always give purples a look, but this Grape Ape was never overwhelmingly strong, leaving room for some functionality and a relatively clear head (and eyes, for that matter). Due to the dryness level, this strain didn’t burn great even when ground-up, so we’d be interested to see how it smokes minus the excess moisture… might push it into the A range.
Triple Diesel (Nedicate)
[smooth=id:10;]
Triple Diesel Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Nedicate
Grade: A-
Type: Sativa-Dominant Hybrid (NYCD x Sour Diesel x OG Kush)
Price: $50/8th
Appearance: (8.5/10) Kind of a scary-looking sample, it’s very dark in color and you can see the ambered trichomes even with the naked eye… there’s around 75% in places and it probably has the most ambers we’ve ever seen on a sample. The bud structure is lovely and looks very Sativa-heavy, with shaking columns of calyxes built on top of one another in a distinctive “foxtailing” pattern. Deep red and even black pistils contribute to the dark appearance.
Aroma: (8.5/10) Soily and slightly sweet in the jar, it breaks up to produce a fresh menthol-tinged soil scent when handled. It reminded one reviewer of freshly torn mint leaves… The pungency was pretty average, but it was enough to be noticed without being right near the bud.
Taste: (6/10) Not as tasty as we expected, it was a pretty standard Diesel type taste, with a soil tinge similar to what was presented in the smell. There were no traces of the NYCD or Strawberry Diesel influence with their brand of sweetness, it was mostly just a fuel and soil taste, but not a particularly pungent one. It burned down to a medium-light gray ash, showing that it had an above-average flush job.
Effects: This one was much calmer than other Triple Diesel strains we’ve tried, likely due to the insane amount of ambered trichomes and increase in CBN it represents. It started with a little buzz of energy waves throughout the body but quickly receded to a strongly spacey state with a burning/buzzing sensation behind the eyes that was very potent. It was a fairly narcotic-feeling experience overall, with waves going through the relaxed body, eyes fading in and out of focus at times, and the urge to mostly remain seated and pursue mental stimulation. In all, it was a smooth and manageable Diesel strain and didn’t carry the craziness that some of them do.
Duration: Medium Long, about 2.5 hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Strong attention to the eyes suggests it would help with glaucoma, it also provided quality mental and physical relaxation and minor pain relief. It was a mood enhancer and would likely help with depression and even mild anxiety, as it didn’t have any “racy” effects at all really.
Overall: We loved the look of this strain, with its super-Sativa foxtailing and swaths of deeply ambered trichomes, and it turned out that those trichomes totally changed the experience that we’ve become accustomed with this strain. If you normally can’t deal with the racy Sativas but want to try a Diesel strain, this might be a good choice simply because it was so relaxing. The taste wasn’t anything special, but the smell was unique for the strain, carrying a heavily minty/menthol overtone. While it would be interesting to see what an early or even medium harvest would do for this particular cut, we actually enjoyed this one more as a daily med than a standard rushy Diesel.
Maui (Nedicate)
[smooth=id:7;]
Maui Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Nedicate
Grade: A-
Type: Sativa-Dominant (one of the many potent indigenous Hawaiian varieties)
Price: $50/8th
Appearance: (7.5/10) Like the S.A.G.E., this one seemed to be on its way out when it was harvested, but it had more ambered trichs than the S.A.G.E. did. Still, the blend of oranges, yellows, browns, and greens made for an attractive and unique sample. It was rather dry and brittle-looking, but was actually sticky when handled.
Aroma: (8/10) Sweet fruit, lemons, and fresh soil dominated this one — it was fairly pungent, with more of the sweet tropical notes coming out after grind.
Taste: (6/10) Somewhat sweet with a hashy tinge, this one got a nutty/woody sort of taste as it went on that wasn’t particularly pleasant. The initial flavor was okay, but the harshness and eventual flavor knocked the experience down a few notches. The murky medium gray ash left might have something to do with the iffy taste — seems that the flush wasn’t as thorough as it needed to be.
Effects: Probably the strongest and most unpredictable Maui we’ve encountered, it hit immediately, causing a racing feeling in the head and some perspiration of the brow and eyes… when eyes were closed, there was a loss of vestibular senses and dizziness was to be expected. Once that blast of initial potency subsided, the legs were slack and draggy and pressure in the face and eyes felt as if it was cycling on and off. It was borderline jittery for a while, but gave way to a motivated, focused energy that was useful for a busy day. Despite all the mental energy, sitting was the preferred position for most of the effects, but the body was ready for activity by the time it was over.
Duration: Long, 2.5 – 3+ hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Didn’t notice body pain while medicated (might have been pre-occupied with all the mental stuff happening), while the strong eye focus leads us to believe that it would help with glaucoma. Appetite stimulation was also evident with this strain.
Overall: This Maui from the folks up at Nedicate is probably the best one overall that we’ve tried, simply because of its shocking initial potency and its long duration. While the effects were a little rushy for some reviewers, the energy provided and the pain relief/body relaxation properties were enjoyed by all. The smell was very impressive, but the taste left something to be desired, perhaps due to an inadequate flush before harvest. If you enjoy an energetic yet mentally-functional Sativa, this Maui would earn your respect. Watch the dosage or it might be a little much at first, even for experienced users.
