Purple Voodoo Medical Marijuana Strain Review

FromBotanico

Grade:  B+

Type:  Near-50/50 hybrid, Double Purple Doja x Urkle x Purple Cheese

Price:  $50/8th

Appearance:  (7/10)  This sample looked very dark from a distance but didn’t have much actual purple on it until it was under a scope, where the purple-shaded leaves and calyxes were apparent.  Wispy red pistils are the only bright colors visible, and the strain looked somewhat intimidating with its almost prehistoric look — its dense, sticky Indica qualities reminded us of a Deep Chunk or Black Domina.  The trichomes were well-timed, with most being cloudy and maybe 20% amber.

Aroma:  (6.5/10)  Just a hint of the traditional “purple” smell here, this sample had a strong dose of musky vegetation, earthiness, and a strange grape candy sweetness that managed to cut through the other smells at times.  As it was ground, the musky smell seemed to come out more, immediately bringing to mind an Afghanica variety to one reviewer.  Though it wasn’t particularly pungent, it was thought of as a fairly nice smell by the staff.

Taste: (5/10)  Our staff tends to not be attracted to Purple strains as a rule, so this one was no surprise in that it received a lukewarm reception taste-wise.  Its muskiness came out shooting in the taste, and it was the dominant taste for the duration.  There was a fruity floral taste that came through on the early hits, but it disappeared and gave way to a more harsh and hashy, smokey finish that some reviewers struggled with.  It was fairly harsh towards the end and bothered the throat a little bit, causing some coughing.

Effects:  Dull and immediately medicated eyes were the first effect felt, followed shortly after by a somatic feeling throughout the body that made us want to just sit down and melt into the seat.  Surprisingly with the strong Indica-feeling attack, it was a fairly functional and clear effect, which we all appreciated (especially since the staff tends to not enjoy the often groggy-feeling Purple strains).  The body high was extremely evident from the beginning and stayed fairly constant, but the lingering eyes feeling and a slight burst of energy returning to a sober state were the epilogue of this strain’s effects.  Nicely potent and medicating, yet mentally clearer than most Purple strains, this is a good option for those who don’t tend to enjoy Purples that much.

Duration:  Long, 2.5 – 3 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  General relaxation, sleep aid, appetite stimulation, mild pain/tension relief.

Overall:  This ”purple” was better than many in that it didn’t leave us feeling totally groggy and sleepy, but rather had a fairly clear-headed feeling for the majority of the effects.  Some of the typical Purple taste combined with a strong Afghani influence made this an average medicine in terms of taste and smell, but the duration and effects mostly made up for it.  We would recommend this strain for an indoors nighttime activity or work, as we were functional but not exactly full of energy — it would put you in an appropriate mental state for sleeping as well by the end of the effects if consumed in the evening.
