Strawberry Cough Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Botanic Labs

Grade: B+

Type: Sativa-Dominant Hybrid (said to be Strawberry Fields x Haze)

Price: $50/8th

Appearance: (8/10)  Top notch treatment-wise here, with a well-timed harvest (25% ambers in areas), a good manicure, and a perfect level of dryness.  The coloring is mostly a muted gray-green with some darker leaves and groves of fiery orange pistils.

Aroma: (8.5/10)  Probably the single best feature of this strain, the aroma was a pungent sweet-and-sour berry that was reminiscent of an under-ripe fruit.  The Haze influence is noticeable and this strain has a slightly acrid bite to it that makes you crinkle your nose a bit.

Taste: (8/10)  While the taste was a pretty amazing blend of sweet and sour berry that matched the smell almost to a tee, that flavor went downhill somewhat quickly, with only the first two hits containing any kind of flavor.  However, the smoke was still rather smooth on the throat despite its above-average expansion level… and the pure white “skeleton” ash confirms that this had a perfect flush.

Effects: Rather balanced to start off, this strain produced a buzzing feeling behind the eyes and around the head (which felt heavy on the shoulders) as well as the body, which was immediately relaxed.  It was extremely strong behind the eyes by 30 minutes in, burning a bit but not quite reaching the tired state.  With its mood elevating properties and its fairly potent-feeling body sensations, this feels like a quality hybrid experience that isn’t dominated by one side or the other.

Duration: Medium, 2 – 2.5 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  General relaxation, mild body pain/tension relief, appetite stimulation, possible ocular relief.

Overall: If you’re someone who enjoys a complex berry taste and aroma, this strain is right up your alley. If you want a nicely calming experience but don’t want to be knocked out, this is a good choice.  Basically, it’s a moderately potent all-purpose medication that didn’t really shine in any area but also didn’t lack in any.  As usual with Botanic Labs, the post-grow care was superb, as was the timing of the harvest.  If only it had a little extra punch or duration it would’ve been in the A- to A range for sure.

Sour Diesel (Botanic Labs)

Sour Diesel Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Botanic Labs

Grade: A-

Type: Hybrid sativa dominant [Mass Super Skunk x ChemDawg] x DNL rumored

Price: $60/8th

Appearance: (7/10) Mixed greens leaning towards the darker side.  It was well manicured but had tiny undeveloped seed pods.

Aroma: (8/10) This sample leaned more towards the fuel end of the spectrum, whereas the recent review of this strain from Tetra Hydro Center was very Sour dominant.  It was very pungent and pleasant.

Taste: (8/10) It was unanimous that this sample was slightly harsh, with average expansion and an earthy/soil dominant flavor.  The fuel was found in the undertones but no reports of a citrusy taste.

Effects: Immediate effects, but also fair amount of CBD which caused the full effect to stall out 5-10 minutes.  Jaw clenching, facial heat and tingles, and general uplifiting feeling were the initial experiences.  A bit racey through the first half hour, but it’s a feeling you can have fun with, spawning energy and some unaided excitement without any uneasiness.  I expected the big relaxing wave to take my legs from me as most Sour Diesels do to me about 20 minutes in.  On the contrary, I remained rather spry and peppy throughout this medication almost wired for 2 hours, with a few down waves here and there.  No Drainage.

Duration: Long.  2 – 3 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Aided well in masking pain, would also recommend for glaucoma due to the attention to the eyes.

Overall: This bud and all buds that I have picked up from Matt at Botanic Labs are very clean in taste and in the feeling while medicated, so clean in fact you really have a hard time feeling the transition from being medicated to sober.  It has a nice long duration with no noticeable drop-off effect.

Blue Widow Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From:  Botanic Labs

Grade:  A

Type:  Hybrid indica dominant (Blueberry [F] x White Widow [M])

Price:  $60/8th

Appearance:  (8/10)  The Blue Widow looked very pale and sugary to the naked eye.  It was just on the far end of dry and dense coming very close to almost too…

Aroma:  (9/10) The sample was very pungent with a scrumptious blue candy over a sweet fresh pine scent.

Taste:  (8/10) The BW was just a tad harsh but not bad, and packed a big expansion.  It tasted much like the smell with a sweet berry tone that was very pleasing.

Effects:  The Blue Widow makes no bones about its indica nature and immediately delivers a calming wave.  Pressure and stress melt away leaving the mind in a comfortable solitude and the body in a flacid state.  Conversation and outside intrusion (TV/Radio/Computer) were found to be somewhat unpleasant but still performable if necessary.  The couch and a book, or a towel and the sun, are where your mind and body will want to park and enjoy the long, relaxing ride.

Duration:  Long. 2.5 – 3 hours

Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  This strain is a great pain fighter, as are most Blue varieties.  Additionally, the BW delivers total body relaxation for muscle and nerve issue associated with cramps, spasms, or rigidity.  The eyes had a lot of pressure build up and release, and the overall sensation would be excellent for any tense person, be it body or mind.

Overall:  Said best by one of our reviewers, “I’m not usually one for meds that close off the outside world, but this Blue Widow was damn nice.  I felt right at home and truly enjoyed my own company, what a great strain.”

AK-47 (Botanic Labs)

AK-47 Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From:  Botanic Labs

Grade:  A-

Type:  Slightly Sativa-dominant hybrid, see AK-47′s strain encyclopedia page for more info

Price:  $20/gram

Appearance:  (8/10)  Nice structures and density, compact but still fluffy enough to allow good trichome builds.  It was a bit too dry but better than too wet.

Aroma:  (6/10) Smell is a bit neutral on the outside.  When broken up it has rich sweet scents of juicy fruit gum and an earthy undertone.

Taste:  (7/10) The flavor is a bit like sandalwood and very organic.  Has a hint of pepper, very smooth with good expansion.

Effects:  This sample may have had a high CBD percentage as it was a slow, creeping start that continued to gain momentum.  The soaring sativa cerebral high is present first, followed by a heavy shoulders and neck body experience about 30 minutes in.  THC seemed to be a little lower (possibly converted to CBN) because the cerebral aspects were a bit “stoney” and heavy, as is common with high CBD and lower THC relatively.

Duration:  Medium.  1.5 – 2 hours

Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Appetite inducer, muscle relaxation, mild headaches.  Very mild pain relief qualities.

Overall:  This was a nice example of an organic AK47 with complex smells and a nice mixed-bag of effects.  The potency was good, but with the CBD creep we’d expect the duration to last a little longer.
