Trainwreck (Apothecary of Colorado)
Trainwreck Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Apothecary of Colorado
Grade: B+
Type: Sativa-dominant hybrid of unknown lineage
Price: $50-$60 8th member/non-member pricing plus tax
Appearance: (4/10) The sample was extremely dry, ready to break down at any moment, and it was on the whispy side of dense. The sample appeared to to be handled heavily with barely any visible trichome coverage to the naked eye. We also found some small seed pods throughout the sample.
Aroma: (7/10) Although there was hardly a scent at all in the jar, once broken open this sample gave a very nice aroma. It was just over average pungency and smelled of a fruity cereal, very nice.
Taste: (5/10) Upon inhalation it tastes slightly sweet with a bit of pine. Upon exhale it gets hashy and earthy. It was a little harsh and just didn’t give the flavor the scent deserved.
Effects: While still certainly a sativa heavy sample, this specimen must have had a higher percentage of indica, the trichs were more amber than the photos lead on, or the combination of CBD/CBN caused a very heavy, slow, and time warping experience. This was definitely the least racey of Trainwreck specimens we’ve had our hands on, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t still a solid medicinal sample.
Duration: Medium. almost 2 hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Upon comedown this strain can assist with insomnia (even though it is heavy sativa). It has great appetite stimulant properties and provides moderate pain relief.
Overall: This Trainwreck started off typical, with a head rush and a cerebral nature. It then presented many more indica characteristics than typical Trainwreck. Some sativas are known as ‘crushers’ in that they hit so hard they mimic indica traits. This felt more like a traditional indica sedative and body relaxer however. Having a B+ grade places this as the mean for really good medicinal level marijuana. No shame in grabbing some B+ meds, and this one is interesting enough to recommend you giving it a try to see how it plays out for your physiology.
Maui Waui (Apothecary of Colorado)
Maui Waui Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Apothecary of Colorado
Grade: B+
Type: Hybrid – Sativa dominant (The famous Hawaiian Sativa, known for a later harvest and vibrant Fall colors).
Price: $50-$60/8th plus tax (member/non-member)
Appearance: Beautiful light-green colored nugs with hues of deep purple and green. Abundance of milky and amber trichomes surround its tropical looking leaves and buds.
Aroma: Sweet and earthy aroma – a mild pungence.
Taste: Tastes a lot like a typical Maui strain, a bit of holiday spice. Very thick sweet smoke with good expansion.
Buzz Type: Very uplifting buzz. Kicked in instantly and gave me a numbing sensation in my head – tingly face. Makes on feel very creative and energetic and gave me very antsy legs when trying to stay seated. This is not a good evening strain.
Buzz Length: Medium. 1.5 hours
Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Great for headaches and nausea. Mild relief of muscular pains, but doesn’t last verylong.
Overall: This strain is spelled in many different ways (Maui Wowie, Maui Waui, Maui Wowi, Mauwie Wauwie, Maui Wowee) but it all refers back to the old skool strains that many of us highly prized back in the days. Very popular in the 80’s along with Acapulco Gold, it should be grown outside in an ideal environment and harvested a little late. A great Hawaiian strain that is definitely a strong sativa high and the smell is just lovely. You want to use this outside on a nice sunny day if at all posible, it’s quite enjoyable.
Matanuska (Apothecary of CO)
Matanuska Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Apothecary of Colorado
Grade: B+
Type: Sativa/ Indica mix
Price: $50-$60 8th member/non-member pricing plus tax
Appearance: Average, reminded me of the standard “kind buds” we first saw in the mid ’90s (basic green, low to medium trich coverage).
Aroma: Sour eucalyptus.
Taste: Eucalyptus and dryer sheets, not earthy but harsh (way harsh from pipe).
Buzz Type: A sativa no doubt, that took me from a lazy irritable state to one of alertness and content. Sharp mind, useful conversation with extreme detail and musical inspiration. A robust strain yet never overwhelming. Gave me a smooth, linear experience and overall good feeling.
Buzz Length: Medium. 1.5 – 2 hours (mush shorter duration from vaporizer, 1 hour at longest)
Medicinal Use: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) Anxiety, stress, irritability and fatigue haven’t a chance against the Matanuska. No recollection of pain and was even able to clear a slight headache.
Overall: Though this one didn’t have the brute force that some prefer, it is a good Sativa/Indica mix with remarkable mood and spirit lifting qualities, a perfect choice for a day starter. A slight deduction for duration and harshness and differing effects across both reviewers and reviews kept this in the B range.
