Dutch Treat Haze Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Alternative Wellness Center

Grade: A-

Type: Hybrid, sativa dominant 60/40 - Dutch Treat (80% Indica BC medical strain) x Haze

Price: $50/8th

Appearance: (8.5/10)  This strain came mostly in the form of little minty green Christmas tree-shaped buds that glimmered with fat-headed trichomes.  It had a very solid manicure, but there were some darker green leaves visible, along with the dark red and light brown pistils.  Perfectly dry and cured just the way we like it, it also had a very well-timed harvest, as it displayed about 25% ambered trichomes and many that were cloudy.  A good density for a Sativa-dominant sample, the flower clusters had a little give but were rather solid and left a dusting of trichs on your fingers when handled.

Aroma: (8.5/10)  True to its lineage, this sample smelled like a sweet citrusy Haze, with hints of limes, pine, and blue candy.  It was a very fresh and pleasant smell that reminded one reviewer of a Jack Herer a bit.  While it wasn’t very strong-smelling in the bag, it broadcast quite well after it was cut up or ground, making it an above-average scent overall.

Taste: (7.5/10)  A strong taste of eucalyptus along with some grassy-tasting citrus was the dominant taste profile here.  The smoke was fairly thick and tickled the throat, causing a decent amount of coughing, but it didn’t have any kind of burning or real harshness.  It seemed to taste slightly better through a clean pipe than an IncrediBowl for whatever reason, normally it’s the opposite.

Effects: This sample certainly seemed Haze-dominant, as the experience was overwhelmingly Sativa, especially at the onset.  Full of motivation and energy, the swirling head high that comes on quickly coursed up the scalp and face, making the reviewers feel immediately medicated.  Though it wasn’t overwhelming-feeling, one reviewer reported an immediate perspiration in his head and face and a quick-arriving slightly cloudy mental state.  As it went on, the urge to stand and keep busy was the dominant impression, and all reviewers reported abundant energy but without jittery or anxious feelings.  Despite that, this wasn’t exactly a social strain, but rather one that made us want to do small projects or creative endeavors.  Towards the end, it began to show some Indica traits, or maybe just a bit of a comedown, as the experience became a bit cloudy-feeling and tired to finish.

Duration: Long, 2.5 – 3 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Motivation, creativity, possible ocular relief, clear-headed relief.

Overall: A very productive and energetic daytime strain, this Dutch Treat Haze felt Sativa dominant in profile until the very end, when tiredness and a groggy head kicked in.  The almost linear focus on projects and creative pursuits would make this a great choice for a productive weekend morning, but probably not the best for enjoying the company of others, as it was cerebral and slightly introspective.  Though it didn’t provide a ton of pain relief, it would satisfy most Sativa lovers and those who aren’t looking for a strong body high.  The pleasant taste and smell make this an above average total package for sure, and it will really please a patient desiring some extra motivation and energy from their meds.

Star Fruit (Alternative Wellness Center)

Starfruit Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Alternative Wellness Center

Grade: A-

Type: Hybrid [Sensi Star x (Juicy Fruit or Heavy Duty Fruity possibly)]  *We also know of a grower who called their Sensi Star ‘Starfruit’ as a phenotype but sold it as something unrelated.  This could be an offshoot from those plants and actually just be Sensi Star.  Unconfirmed.

Price: $50/8th inc. tax

Appearance: (8/10) Classic mix of pale greens and orange pistils.  Mostly cloudy trichs, very few ambers; good harvest timing though, as cloudy is top potency level.  Average density and very dry.

Aroma: (8/10) This was an intersting aroma.  It almost smelled like rotting fruit or compost in the jar, but once ground it had a salty/lime chips scent with a bit of sweetness.  Non-traditional smell but well represented.

Taste: (6/10)  This burned to a light gray ash and had an overly earthy flavor to it.  One reviewer asked “Why didn’t they name this Gardenfruit?” and another commented, “It was like a casserole of the smells, herby and earthy.”

Effects: Initial aspects, can feel my heartbeat in my ears, swirling high in the back of my head and neck, kind of warm-feeling, the high isn’t really behind my eyes at all, which is rare.  One person felt a sinus attack immediately.   It is a bit of a creeper, as it showed up behind the eyes later on and a more medicated feeling than at first.  There is a head high, kind of throbbing (in a good way).  No real body high to speak of, a bit warm-feeling and relaxed, but no real feeling to describe (pain-free though)… ninja body high.  Good appetite stimulant, never felt very high, but body felt great and I’m very relaxed overall… The effects seemed centralized to my head almost exclusively, back of the head, eyes a little bit, neck.

Duration: Long.  2 – 2.5 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  General relaxation, pain relief (both muscle and nerve), clear-headed relief, appetite.

Overall: No comedown to speak of, this one was a nice, level calming yet clear pain-relieving experience that I really enjoyed.  It made my body feel good without having a really distinct body high, helped my pain, and just contributed to a sense of well-being and positivity.  I think this was a good all-around strain that didn’t side either Indica or Sativa and would be good for almost any occasion or need aside from severe pain/sleep aid kind of narcotic relief.

K2 Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Alternative Wellness Center

Grade: A-

Type: Mostly Indica, supposedly a fruity-tasting branch of the Dutch-born White family of strains.

Price: $50/8th

Appearance: (9/10) An extremely appealing sample to the eye, this one had an exquisite manicure and no real visual flaws to be seen.  Its super generous trichome coverage and classic “Christmas tree” shape and accompanying density were well-liked by our reviewers.  Color-wise, it’s a blend of pale frosty greens with clusters of orange pistils spread all over the place.

Aroma: (7.5/10) This one was a sweet soil/earthy-dominant smell with a slight sharp citrus and chemical hit that we enjoyed quite a bit.  It made me crinkle up my nose when smelling it and was thought to be a fairly uncommon smell by our review panel.  While not a strain that fills up the room with its scent, it was above average in pungency.

Taste: (7/10) The dominant taste experienced was a slightly sweet earthy taste with a sort of cedar/woody quality.  This strain was unusual in that it retained its taste as it was exhaled, keeping the same sweetness and earthy/soil back note.  The smoke was moderately harsh, probably in part from the thick trich coverage and expansion, but it was thoroughly appealing.  It seemed to have a solid flush, as it burned to a mottled gray/white ash and didn’t have any chunks that resisted burning.

Effects: While one reviewer reported a simply calm and fairly clear-headed high, the dominant perspective was that this one was highly medicinal and rather heavy.  Reported effects included heavy eyes, a “low” feeling throughout the experience (like everything felt literally lower, like sinking into the surroundings), and a reduction in focus and most mental faculties.  Despite its heavy and at times overwhelming feeling, this strain did wonders for the muscle and nerve pain of the review staff.

Duration: Medium, 2-2.5 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Muscle tension, muscle pain, nerve pain (fibromyalgia, etc.), sleep aid, anti-anxiety.

Overall: This strain provided a rather strong and heavy Indica high that did a great job with day-to-day aches and pains as well as more serious pain.  Its extremely relaxing high and sleep aid tendencies would make this a superb nighttime strain after an active day when sore muscles need relief.  The look, smell, and taste were all above average, but this strain was about the experience more than the sensory qualities.  While a new patient or someone who can’t handle strong indicas may overdo it easily, the worst that would happen is that they’d find the bed a few hours early, most likely while feeling nicely pain-free.
