Purple Cotton Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Alternative Wellness Center

Grade: B+

Type: Indica-dominant hybrid, unknown lineage (possibly Granddaddy Purple x Cotton Candy) – contact us if you have info on this one

Price: $45/8th, $40/8th for members

Appearance: (7.5/10)  This sample was a bit odd in that it looked better from a distance than it did up-close.  It had great density and structure, with typical cone-shaped buds that got a close trim and a bevy of greens to go along with plenty of purpling.  However, it seemed to have been run through a trimming machine or otherwise roughly-handled, as trich heads were knocked off and some calyxes were snipped too close.  The harvest timing also was early overall, with only a few ambers.

Aroma: (7.25/10)  Mostly a dark fruity sweetness with hints of skunk, it developed some interesting sharpness akin to rubber when ground up — reminded us a lot of Purple Kush aroma-wise.  It was nicely pungent but not anything spectacular.

Taste: (6/10)  A light, sweet grapey flavor was the main one present, with a little hit of floral incense.  The flavor was fleeting and seemed ti disappear after the first hit or two, which was disappointing.  Part of the lacking taste may be due to the iffy-looking flush, which left behind a fairly dark gray ash.

Effects: This strain came on fairly strong early, with some frontal lobe pressure, burning eyes, and some drymouth starting almost immediately.  The body felt warm and fairly relaxed and that translated to a slightly cloudy mental state for the first 30 minutes or so.  Not a ‘stealth med’, it had our eyes low and blurry at times, even as the initial potency lifted.  As it progressed, a calm focus overtook us, making this a very solid cubicle type of strain for semi-detailed work with limited socializing.  The body feeling wasn’t anything direct (no body waves or buzzing really), but we all felt good nonetheless and the body almost felt absent at times… we didn’t think about it.  To finish, it gave an uptick in energy and clarity, which was appreciated.

Duration: Medium, 2 – 2.5 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Physical relaxation, mental relaxation, mood stabilization, some increase in appetite.

Overall: While the look and structure will certainly please most Purple-lovers, a closer inspection revealed some flaws in the grow and the post-harvest care.  None of those flaws served to ruin the experience, but they certainly hampered the overall potential and left us wishing to see this one in a perfect scenario.  The experience though was a very solid daytime Indica, as it packed a bit of a punch early on but evened out into a focused and productive state that would be useful for a work day (despite the physical signs if gave off).  More pain distraction than direct relief, it still left us feeling capable and relaxed physically.

Purple Cotton is indeed GDP x Cotton Candy, I have had a very nice harvest/cure of this strain and it really leans toward the GDP as far as smell and taste, It is a house strain at my favorite shop here in Colorado Springs. Do yourself a favor if you get the opportunity to try this strain again do so. I believe the ratings would be a little higher.
