Platinum Master Kush Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: Highland Health
Grade: A-
Type: Indica-dominant, unconfirmed lineage, likely SoCal Master Kush x Afghani
Price: $50/8th + tax
Appearance: (7.5/10) The first thing that stuck out at us when looking at this sample was how large, dense, and blocky the nugs were — one of them was shaped almost like a brick and the other was an extremely dense Christmas tree shape. The coloring was pretty dark overall, calling out the strain’s Indica roots — deep green leaves blended in with the calyxes and groves of orange-red pistils, making it look like a monolith of forest green. There was a seed spotted and a couple of tiny yellow leaves, but otherwise there were no real signs of stress. The trichomes looked a bit odd, as if they were slightly beat-up, but the coverage was still above-average. The harvest timing seemed a little early though, as the only visible ambers were right next to the stem… most of the trichs were clear/cloudy.
Aroma: (7.5/10) This strain smelled much like a Bubba Kush in the bag/jar, with some dark musky notes that bring to mind coffee. However, when ground, it seemed to lighten up a bit, becoming more herby, slightly sweet, and citrusy but still carrying the Kush sharpness. It was probably more pungent pre-grind, which is odd.
Taste: (7/10) This was a fairly light and floral-leaning Kush flavor with hints of menthol and spice. The taste wasn’t terribly lasting or pungent, but the final ash was light gray and fluffy, so the flush was not to blame for that.
Effects: The very early effect of this one felt Sativa in nature, with a rush of blood to the eyes, pressure fluctuations in the head, a bit of heart-racing, and a buzzing body presence that made us feel energetic. That faded somewhat quickly though, and this med converted into a full-blown Indica experience barely 45 minutes into it, complete with fairly strong body relaxation and mood elevation. Mentally, it had that quality where you can focus on something when necessary/interested enough, but in general the mindset was lazy, goofy, and somewhat inattentive. After the effects really started to decline 1.5 hours in, it made the majority of our staff feel rather drowsy, while one reviewer reported no such effect.
Duration: Medium, 2- 2.5 hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) General relaxation, anti-anxiety, some mood elevation, ocular attention, appetite stimulation, and mild pain relief.
Overall: While we didn’t think this sample quite reached the potential that the strain holds, it was still very enjoyable for our staff, providing a reasonably clear-headed package of Indica effects that had us feeling calm and positive. The uber-dense structure was a bit of a turn-off for most of our staff, but many people prefer that texture… if you like a dense, rocky bud structure that doesn’t crumble to nothing when squeezed due to being very dry, this is a great choice. The smell and taste reminded us a whole lot of Bubba Kush, but with some more citrusy/herby elements and a slight sweetness at times. We recommend this as an after-work relaxation type of med, possibly one that leads directly into sleep, as the comedown was fairly drowsy.
