Island Sweet Skunk (The Breck Loft)
Island Sweet Skunk Medical Marijuana Strain Review
From: The Breck Loft
Grade: A
Type: Sativa-dominant hybrid, BC Sweet Pink Grapefruit x Big Skunk #1
Price: $60/8th + tax for non-members ($55 members)
Appearance: (8/10) White it had some signs of stress such as extra foxtailing and some yellowed leaves that were left on, this was a very pretty Island Sweet Skunk. It had a rather Sativa structure and looked immediately potent in the jar with its ultra-bright thick orange pistils and its uber-frosty calyxes. The harvest timing is where this strain really shined, as it was perfect — there are some ambers visible practically anywhere you look… nice patience by the grower. We did spot a few tiny seed pods, but they didn’t seem to affect the experience.
Aroma: (8.5/10) Maybe the most aromatic ISS we’ve come across, this one was more complex than usual, with some interesting spice notes that brought to mind a Durban Poison along with a slightly sweet soil + pine cleaner twang. All of that on top of the standard ISS candy orange backdrop combined with its above-average pungency made this one we kept smelling in the jar.
Taste: (7/10) There was some disagreement here in terms of how much we actually liked the taste, but one reviewer loved it while the others were lukewarm — both picked up creamy grapefruit (citrus + pine) though. The smoke was pretty smooth but expansive and made us cough at times. The final ash was almost perfect, as it burned to a fluffy near-white.
Effects: To start off this ISS delivered a combination of energy, relaxation, and strong ocular effects. Our mood elevated immediately, though it was a bit anxiety-inducing at times due to the energetic nature of it as well as due to the redness caused in the eyes… not a stealth med in the least. Thoughts were scattered at times, and the spacey nature of this med was apparent throughout, but it also seemed to enhance our vision, hearing, and overall perceptual abilities… odd combination. Below the neck, it provided quality body relaxation, at times to a point of near-numbness, where legs fall asleep because they’re not being moved often enough. It shifted gears towards the end and became very relaxing, forcing one reviewer to go lay down for a while… definitely could feel the Indica at the finish,
Duration: Long, 2.5 – 3+ hours
Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY) ISS has shown benefits in alleviating symptoms of RSD, MS, Fibromyalgia, nausea, chemotherapy (fatigue, appetite stimulant), Glaucoma, Epilepsy, nerve pain, headaches, while also providing strong ocular attention throughout, mood elevation, and appetite stimulation.
Overall: This might be our overall favorite ISS that we’ve seen (and we’ve gotten quite a few)… devastatingly potent at the onset, it’s one for the connoisseurs and experienced patients only, especially at higher dosages. ISS is a strain known for having a lot of great medicinal benefits, and this strain was no exception… if you can deal with the bouts of anxiety that it can sometimes cause, it will reward you with potency and varied effects. While we can complain a bit about the overall structure and the manicure (especially the browning/yellowed leaves left on), the harvest timing and other care was superb down to the flush — no real issues here. If you’re a fan of this strain and find yourself in Breckenridge, you can’t go wrong with this one… superb example of ISS that will really reel you in with the smell.

Hey KR Crew,
Glad ya liked the sample. The trim was a little rushed. A little too much bud chopped at once and I didn’t want to let it all over-dry. Either way glad you liked the review. Lots of people claim to really flush – I actually do @ a 5:1 ratio with 2 week minimum time. I appreciate the comments on this. This is the reason for the yellow leaves – I flush really really hard and grow cleanly to begin with.
I’ll let you know when I’ve got more fire for you to try!
Thanks
Thanks for the info! We always like when the grower can hop on and give us a little more on the samples… good stuff. I too prefer a long flush and tend to get some yellowed leaves, so I feel you on that one! Appreciate the patience with that and with the harvest… one of the better harvest timings we’ve seen as of late, and I think it showed in the FSL cannabinoid results.
no problem rlp.
I hope y’all like the earth, I let it go for 14 weeks so there should be no shortage of amberness!
Most people will say ISS can be chopped in 8 weeks. Mine is the old-school federation version (as opposed to some of the newer varieties) and I almost always will let it go for a minimum of 10 weeks.
