Earth OG Kush Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: The Breck Loft

Grade: A-

Type: Mostly Sativa hybrid, Sour Diesel x OG Kush (thought to be Ghost’s, not verified though)

Price: $60/8th + tax non-members ($55 members)

Appearance: (7.5/10)  While it seemed to be an impressive-looking strain, the sample we ended up with was composed mostly of rather small “popcorn buds” that weren’t terribly impressive to look at.  They had nice structure (medium density) and were very frosty, but also had a loose manicure that left some yellowed leaves on, which knocked down the bag appeal a bit.  There were also some tiny seeds spotted in the calyxes after grinding…  Still though, a solid specimen that had us excited to give it a try.

Aroma: (9/10)  This is one of those strain combos where you can distinctly smell each one in the mix.  The almost gingery/7UP quality of the OG Kush combined with the almost overwhelming fuel/skunk stank of the Sour Diesel blended nicely, especially after the grind.  Initially the fuel dominated for sure, but the OG crept out after the grind and took over.  Nicely pungent and impressive, high marks here.

Taste: (8/10)  Very similar to the smell, this was a bit fresher tasting and less-pungent than we expected from this cross, with the gingery/spicy bite of the OG Kush dominating, leaving a fuel-tinged aftertaste.  There were notes of soil, eucalyptus, and petrol…  The smoke expanded readily and produced a thick cloud but was still fairly smooth on the throat, leaving behind a nearly perfect fluffy light gray ash.

Effects: Immediately elevating the mood, this Sativa-dominant hybrid lived up to that moniker completely, sending a rush of pressure to the temples, eyes, and face along with a buzzing body energy and a slightly racing heart.  Very cerebral and philosophical, it had us a bit spaced-out but craving the company of others for conversation, though if there was a task that needed completing, focus was certainly attainable.  Auditory and visual enhancement completed the Sativa package — there really weren’t any Indica effects to speak of aside from a slight body relaxation during the very late parts of the experience.  A slight boost of energy coming back to a sober state made this one a clean finish.

Duration: Medium-Long, about 2.5 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Energy, mood elevation, strong ocular attention, anti-anxiety, anti-depression, headaches, appetite stimulation, and relief of minor stomach discomfort.

Overall: While we weren’t expecting to award an A- here, we were actually very happy with the strain overall — it just didn’t have the potency and high ceiling that the parent strains are generally known for.  It started off very strong but calmed down and stayed relatively stable after that… we just wanted a little bit more peak potency and staying power to give it an A.  However, we all loved the effects of this strain — it simply made us feel GOOD and provided a quality boost of energy, creativity, and sociability that is great for daytime or a busy night.  At times it was a bit trippy and spacey, but it was relatively functional throughout as well as being a solid “stealth” med.  We recommend this strain to moderate-to-advanced patients who are looking for a mood boost and relief from the stresses of life… great day-in-the-park with friends type of strain.

I don’t understand how this can be considered “A” grade when the yellow leafs aren’t even trimmed off completely.

    Hi Bob,

It’s actually an A-, I missed the dash on the initial edit but had it categorized properly… As far as the yellowed leaves go, the strain did get dinged for them, but they didn’t drastically alter the smoking experience or anything. A tighter manicure would’ve been nice, but it’s still a very attractive strain. The fact that the yellowed leaves are present due to an extended flushing period is basically music to my ears though — far better to have leaves and a great flush than vice-versa.

    Dear KR Crew,

Thanks for the nice review. My budtenders told me when you came in, we had like less than a quarter of the Earth left, but we really wanted you to try it. We will get you a better sample next time as that was definitely ‘the bottom of the bag’. Either way we appreciate the exposure and testing, and were glad you liked the bud! :)

    Peace

I’ve seen this listed in dispensaries and on other review sites as an Indica. Your smoke report could go either way, wouldn’t this be more of an indica dominant hybrid?

Those other sites don’t bother to do any research and they’re all written by random people with no credentials, so I wouldn’t invest any real trust in them.

We talked with the breeder and it was listed as Sativa-dominant at the shop, both strains are Sativa-dominant (people erroneously list OG Kush as Indica simply because it has “Kush” in the name), and our experience was almost entirely Sativa until the very end. It’s definitely a Sativa-dominant strain…

When I get this from my clinic it’s always indicated hybrid. But sure it could go ether way. If your getting it from the clinic in Denvee then solid 10/10 a+ burns down to solid ash. Perfect buds. Look, smell, cure, flush, trim, effects. Cants say enough. One of best. Indica bho products ever made I think. Kit screams OG flavor through some good nectar.(BHO).
