Super Lemon Haze Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Green Mountain CARE

Grade: A-

Type: Sativa-dominant hybrid

Lineage: Lemon Skunk x Super Silver Haze

Price: $50/8th

Appearance: (8.75/10)  With its crisp green coloration, abundant trichome coverage, and classic spear-shaped structure, this Super Lemon Haze looked both impressive and stereotypical in the best possible way.  The trichomes were mostly clear and cloudy, but there were some amber heads present as well — this is an example of a proper harvest on the early side, likely to create a more ‘uppy’, cerebral experience.  No real flaws with this one, though there was a moderate amount of trichome damage, with about 70% retaining their heads after the trim and other post-harvest handling.

Aroma: (9.25/10)  Super Lemon Haze when done properly is simply one of the most all-around pleasing aromas in the cannabis world, and this was a superb example of the type of smells it has in its arsenal.  While the slightly early harvest toned down some of the spicy Haze qualities the strain often has, the amazingly sweet lemon candy aroma that was at the forefront is up there with our favorite smells.  Post-grind, it took on more of the mentholated and floral qualities and lost some of the sweetness, but we appreciated the complexity and ‘hidden’ aromas.

Taste: (8.25/10)  The initial flavor that hits the tongue is all candy lemon sweetness, but it quickly changes into a more mentholated, musky, skunk-based flavor on the exhale.  This is superb in a paper rather than a pipe, as the sweet initial flavor seems to last almost until the end.  The smoke was relatively smooth but did expand readily and caused some coughing due to expansion in the lungs.  The final ash was a light gray with flecks of white, showing a solid, but not perfect flush.

Effects: With a fairly quick onset after 4-5 hits, this strain hit like a freight train to the eyes, then later the sinuses and the rest of the face.  The buzzing, pressure-filled head feeling kept up at a high level for much of the first half of the experience, and an almost jittery internal energy joined that feeling shortly after.  We all felt the urge to get up rather than sit, but often didn’t really know what to do once we were up, settling at times for pacing around or keeping ourselves busy with whatever random activities popped into our brains.  The coursing energy throughout our bodies also came with some massaging body waves, which increased the overall pleasurability of the experience and contributed to the strong mood elevation it provided.  After the 1.5 hour point, it took an Indica turn and became more relaxing and sedate, giving us the urge to relax and do something less active.  No real lingering effects here, after it was gone, we felt either a little bit relaxed or totally normal.

Duration: 1.5 – 2 hours medicinal-level potency, about 3 hours overall

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Energy, ocular relief, mood elevation, some body relaxation, mental relaxation late, some appetite stimulation, and minor pain relief/distraction.

Overall: We wish that this one would’ve been let go just a little bit longer by the grow team, as it fell just shy of the best SLH examples we’ve seen in the aroma, flavor, and duration areas.  That said, this is still top-flight medicine and most patients will fall in love with the syrupy sweet aroma and flavor.  It’s best for the daytime or early evening, as it definitely excites the mind as well as the body, only trending towards the relaxing side after about the 2 hour point.  This was a nearly flawless sample that was clearly well-grown and cared for, and fits the uplifting and cerebral daytime Sativa mold perfectly.
