LSD Medical Marijuana Strain Review

Type:  Strongly Indica-Dominant, Mazar x Skunk #1 from Barney’s Farm Seeds

Price:  $50/8th

Appearance:  (8/10)  A rather appealing sample, this strain was a dark Indica green that looked almost yellow or white due to the amount of trichome coverage.  There was also some purpling on the guard leaves, leaving us to guess that the plant including vegetation would likely have had a very pretty dark purple cast.  The color experience is completed by a collection of long, thin, tendril-like orange and red pistils that snake themselves throughout the calyxes.  Moderately dense but rather dry, this sample sent trichomes flying everywhere whenever it was handled.  Very nice sample overall, though it didn’t “wow” us.

Aroma:  (7/10)  Though we found it lacking in pungency, this strain still packed a very pleasant aroma that was mostly reminiscent of pine cleaner and a bit of citrus with some smell of vegetation.  It didn’t broadcast much at all, but rewarded us with some pungency after being cut up or ground.

Taste: (6/10)  Again not a particularly pungent strain (perhaps the Mazar’s Afghanica lineage put the brakes on some of the Skunk’s normal flavors), our review staff mostly picked up on a strange sort of hickory/smoky taste along with a bit of skunkiness and hashy flavors.  It was never a very pungent taste and left one reviewer wondering what he had actually tasted, so look elsewhere if you want a super-tasty strain.  We have had this strain before from a different non-dispensary grow (and most likely a different phenotype) and it had a very pleasing and sweet taste, so don’t totally write the strain off as lacking taste, but it isn’t ever going to impress you the way a tropical Sativa would, as Indicas simply often lack the complex terpenes that allow for more complex and pungent flavors.  The smoke was quite expansive and of moderate harshness, but was thought to be pretty neutral overall, getting middle-of-the-road marks all-around.  The sample burned to a pretty clean-looking mix of white and dark gray, an 8/10 on the cleanliness scale.

Effects:  True to its name, this strain had a bit of a trippy cerebral quality to it, with an increase in visual acuteness and energy as well as a sense of mental spaciness, which made doing simple tasks a bit more difficult than they would’ve been otherwise.  This strain weirdly seemed to reside almost entirely in the face and body, with sensations experienced in the teeth, jaw, and face, especially in the early portions (enough so that one reviewer said it made him somewhat uncomfortable and caused some tension).  The spacey feeling in the head died down after the initial attack and left the review staff with a very relaxed body that was capable of standing and being active or sitting and being lazy.  An almost analgesic and numbing feeling came on as it wore on, and our reviewers noticed great relief for back pain and tension – along with that came a late-arriving feeling behind the eyes that carried into the somewhat ‘down’ ending of the effects.

Duration:  Long, 2.5 – 3 hours

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Rather strong analgesic properties, felt numbing in face, mouth, and lower back.  It was also good for fatigue (initially), general relaxation (as it wore on), and body looseness (we felt it would be good before exercising).

Overall:  A strain that would really be great for patients experiencing pain (we imagine that it would help with dental work and toothaches, given its strong focus on the mouth area), this Mazar and Skunk cross is a weirdly cerebral and energetic Indica-dominant strain.  The initial impression is trippy and mind-altering but gives way to a supremely medicating but fairly clear-headed body high that lasted a solid 2.5 hours.  Leaving our reviewers feeling loose, relaxed, and ready to encounter the world, this is a great choice for all but the most Sativa-leaning patients and would be especially good for day-to-day aches and pains without leaving a cloudy or sleepy cloud hanging over your head.  While the taste was a bit of a mixed bag, we’ve had very tasty versions of this strain in the past, so the possibility is there for an A or A+ type of sample given this strain’s strong medicinal properties.
