Black Mamba Medical Marijuana Strain Review

From: Coastal Collective (Santa Ana, CA) formerly known as Green Coast Wellness

Grade:  A-

Type: Indica-dominant hybrid

Lineage: Thought to be a phenotype/variation of Grand Daddy Purple

Price: $50/8th

Appearance: (8.25/10)  This sample was definitely dark, with olive greens, dark but muted purple, and sparse orange pistils.  What was really noticeable immediately was how dense the buds were — they were like rocks, barely giving when squeezed and requiring some elbow grease in the grinder.  Despite that, they were nicely dried and seemed to have a quality cure, with quite the collection of milky white trichomes as well as some ambers and clears.  We saw a tiny seed or two, but it was nothing that affected the smoking experience.

Aroma: (8/10)  This sample had a typical (in the best way) Purple aroma, making the possible GDP lineage seem likely.  It has a perfume-like smell that reminded us of fancy soaps, with just a hint of fruity sweetness.  The aroma was very enjoyable, but required some coaxing to really come out, and was never all that pungent.

Taste: (7.25/10)  The flavor was more sweet and fruity than the aroma was, with a definite grape element.  It wasn’t very pungent beyond the first hit or two, but the smoke was smooth and not harsh on the throat.  There was moderate expansion though, and multiple reviewers reported some coughing at the end of the review portion as the smoke became very thick.  A gray and white ash showed it had received an adequate flush.

Effects: This strain came on quickly, after 2 or 3 hits it sent a wave of pressure into the eyes and head, and a buzzing sensation in the feet and shoulders.  A calming sensation came over our staff, putting the mind at ease, but making us a little slow-witted.  It was more suited to stationary activities like watching a movie or (if you can keep your eyes open) reading a book, and we didn’t feel the desire to leave the house at all.  The effect got somewhat tiring as it progressed, with strong muscle relaxation and heavy eyelids making it easy to go curl up for a nap.  It was a smooth decline in effect, but multiple reviewers ended up falling asleep before the effects were completely gone.

Duration: 2 hours medicinal-level potency, 3+ hours overall duration

Medicinal Traits: (We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Mood elevation, anti-anxiety, muscle relaxation, moderate pain relief, ocular attention, appetite stimulation, and sleep aid later in the duration.

Overall: This was one of the densest samples we’ve seen in some time, so if you’re a person who appreciates rock-like buds that burn long and evenly, this is one to look into for sure.  The strain seemed like a pretty typical Purple, but with a nice kick of potency that sent it over the edge from the often moderate and uplifting Purples into the more narcotic and sedative ones.  The effects were definitely best for a late-day or early evening session rather than a morning one, as the second half especially had us feeling drowsy and very relaxed.  Great choice for a night at home when relaxation, pain relief, and sleep aid are desired.
